Llamas
Llamas are a funny kind of animal. You find them in South America where there are over 7 million Llamas. Now there are 158,000 in the US and Canada. The primary home for llamas are the Andes the longest mountain range in the world.
Fully grown llamas can weigh up to 200 kg and be as tall as 1.8m [ 6ft ]. Baby llamas called a cria can weigh up to 14 kg.
Llamas can live for 20-30 years with good care They have very soft wool which is lanolin free. This allows them to live at high altitudes.
Llamas are smart enough to be taught simple tasks and they are used for work. They were domesticated about 6,000 years ago by the Aztecs.
Female Llamas are used for milking and males are used for moving large objects. Llamas are very strong and can carry 25-30% of their weight that means that if the were 200 kg they could carry 50 kgs. Their fat tallow is used for candles.
